Understand how a product’s lifecycle impacts your ability to service and maintain it
New Products
Just come to market
Just launched and recently available products
Manufacturers launch new products each year, often featuring innovative technologies. We typically add new products to Equipment Catalogue after launch and before they come available. Sometimes these products are only available to pre-order or with long lead-times as the factory is yet to fully set up production.
When buying recently released products, double-check that parts are readily available and engineers are sufficiently trained on new technologies. We only add products to Equipment Store when appropriate after-sales support is possible.

Service and maintain to maximise working life
Once a product is in production and readily available, we mark it as current. These products have benefitted from production tweaks ironing out any initial issues, plus parts are widely available and engineers have been trained.
Products are frequently improved across their lifecycle with new components. We mark these as upgraded for a period of time so buyers of new and used versions are aware they may be difference and require different parts or servicing regimes. You can view many products’ history in Equipment Catalogue.
As your needs change, you may need to buy or sell current products to get equipment that’s suitable for your business or to benefit from new technologies.

Keep these products in use or upgrade to newer equipment
When a product is no longer manufactured, its parts remain available for a period of time – typically at least 10 years.
With good care and maintenance many of these products can have a full and productive working life. The main drivers to upgrade are typically technological (new items may offer superior performance), financial (the running costs of new products may be lower), or environmental (the savings from efficient operation can outweigh the embodied carbon).

Approaching end of life
You may have challenges sourcing original parts for these products, making them more difficult to maintain or repair. However, there are a number of options available to you. In some instances you can use generic parts or, if you are technically savvy, you may be able to retrofit new technologies.
The lack of general support often makes these products too challenging for general commercial use. They can be suitable for hobbyists and collectors. Alternatively, disposed of correctly to ensure the parts and metals are recycled.
