Coffee Tasting
Is this bitter? Or sour?
If you’re having trouble distinguishing bitterness from sourness, take a sip of coffee, swirl it around your mouth, swallow, then look down and open your mouth slightly.
If saliva starts to pool or drip, that’s caused by acidity – which we perceive as sourness.

Coffee tasting isn't difficult, with these tasting tips
The Coffee Tasting Framework is accurate, intuitive and grounded in how people actually perceive flavour. It will equip you to identify a coffee’s defining characteristics, appreciate its appeal and identify the coffee drinkers that will enjoy it.

Practical updates to a practical grinder
The updated Compak E6 builds on its best features while significantly enhancing usability.
Beneath its sleek exterior, the E6 boasts a slightly more powerful motor. However, it’s the design upgrades that elevate this grinder from a dependable staple to a contender for industry favourite. The interface is now more user-friendly, thanks to a new touchscreen that offers intuitive control over settings. Additionally, the latest version introduces Compak's innovative Lock & Load System, providing baristas with instant access to the grinding chamber for cleaning and burr replacement. This new feature allows grind settings to remain intact, eliminating the need to readjust and reducing dial-in time.
Despite these improvements, the E6 remains competitively priced and offers exceptional value. For those who require a more powerful grinder, the E6's larger counterpart, the E8, might be a better fit. However, for low-to-medium volume shops or as a dedicated decaf grinder, the E6 firmly secures its spot in our Great Value Edit for 2025.
